REPLY TO

ATTN OF: New Jersey Wing CAC

SUBJECT: Minutes for Jul 96

TO: NJ Wing Membership

1. The meeting was declared open at 1000 hrs. local. The meeting was low in attendance due to all of the activities such as Cadet Officers School, New Jersey Flight Encampment, IACE, and family vacations.

2. The first order of business was to select a committee for the Cadet Conference. It was decided that there should be a separate conference for cadets. This will be good because it allows all cadets to meet and have their own conference, rather than them going to the Wing Conference and have to sit through all of the things that are mainly for Senior Members. Another reason is the cost. It is usually not a problem for Senior Members to get a room and transportation to these things, but it is a problem for most cadets. It was reported by Lt. Col. Joan Convery that we should get Air Force personnel to help plan the subjects and format for this event. The committee is not de-ionate. Hopefully, more cadets would like to be on the committee for the Cadet Conference. So far, the committee members are as follows:

C/1 Lt. Cheryl Blonski

C2 Lt. Eric Vanderer

C/FO Mark Farren

C/SSgt Felix Diaz

C/Sgt Ian DeLorey

3. It was reported by Lt. Col. Convery that the Israeli cadets arrived yesterday. there are four cadets and four seniors. Three of the cadets are fighter pilots, and one of them is a helicopter pilot in the Israeli Air Force. When they arrived at Wing Headquarters, they had a lot of food and people waiting for t them. Later on that day, they went with their host families. There are BBQ's and other parties arranged for them during the time that they are here. The cadets will be at Wing Headquarters on 23 Jul at around 2000 hrs and all cadets from the wing are welcome to come and meet them.

4. Kirby award applications are still being accepted until 1 Oct 96. A committee is yet to be formed, but we plan to have one in the near future. All cadets are reminded that it doesn't have to be a top cadet in the squadron, just someone who tries as much as he or she can to do their best.

5. It was reported by C/FO Mark Farren that the 1996 Summer Basic and Advanced Ground Search And Rescue Schools went real well. The basic school consisted of four students, one of which was a Senior Member, and the Advanced school consisted of six students, two of which were senior members. The attendance was so low because the flyers didn't get out in time. This problem is going to be fixed by planning at least three months in advance for each school. During the school, the advanced students got called out on two missions. They found both of them successfully.

6. Squadron interaction report. The rest of the meeting was dedicated to find out what other squadrons are doing, and to improve communication throughout the squadrons in the Wing.

a. Picatinny Squadron. Cadet Vanderer reported that in June, Picatinny, Teterboro, and Central Jersey Squadrons got together and held a cadet leadership school. They did several activities including drill, various leadership classes, teamwork activities, compass course, customs and courtesies, and even had a small mile run and volleyball competition. They hope to have other squadrons participate in the leadership weekend next year, along with more activities.

b. General Jimmy Stewart Squadron. Cadet Blonski reports that her squadron is in a slump right now. There is still very little communication between the seniors and cadets. They do try to go flying every chance they get, and they participate in some New York activities. They are planning various fund raising and recruiting activities. They will keep on informing CAC about their progress.

c. Jack Schweiker Squadron. Cadet DeLorey reports that their squadron is headed for a major recruiting drive that coincides the National Membership drive. Their goal is to have all of the members of the squadron recruit a minimum of two new members before 1 Jun 97. There will be prizes and awards awarded within the squadron, and they hope to receive awards from National for the most new members recruited. The squadron predicts that the drive should double the number of cadet in the squadron. They also report that they have changed locations from the Alternate School in Mount Holly to Camden County Airport. They hope that the move will help create a better aerospace learning environment, and with recruiting.

d. Maj. Thomas B. McGuire, Jr. Squadron. Cadet Diaz reported that their squadron recently split up into two flights - and Advanced, and a Basic. The basic light is made up of new cadets and those cadets who still need help in drill, leadership, and other areas. They are planning to hold an Emergency Services bivouac in the beginning of September. They are going to invite the Teterboro and Essex County Squadron Commander's to this. This is so that there could be various instructors, and they could get some instructor time to get credit for their Instructor Rating in Emergency Services.

7. The New Jersey Wing Encampment is scheduled for 17-24 Aug. So far, there are 90-95 cadets who are coming, including 2 cadets from New York Wing.

8. Motion to adjourn at 1100 hrs local.
