The Dates for the 2007 Spring GSAR School are as follows:

  • 1st Weekend 20-22 Apr
  • 2nd Weekend 27-29 Apr
  • 3rd Weekend 4-5 May

  • Location: Ft. Monmouth
    All Students are to Report Between 1630-1800 At Ft. Monmouth
    Bldg 1110 The Bayshore Composite Squadron Building

    Basic GSAR Course Content

    Civil Air Patrol's New Jersey Wing Emergency Services Academy invites you to attend 2007 Spring Ground Search And Rescue School.

    The school trains students in fundamentals of ground search and rescue and trains students to find Electronic Locating Transmitters (ELTs) in urban locations. Upon completion of the school you will have the skills to find ELTs in areas ranging from airports to boatyards to individuals’ homes. While serving as a student you will gain hands on experience and proficiency in operational safety, basic navigation and electronic search procedures. Students will be assigned to a Training Team that will be supervised by one of the highly experienced members of the staff. Instruction will be both lecture and practical, with a large part of Instruction conducted in the field. Instructors have compiled many years of SAR experience and are highly experienced in their fields.

    Staff

    The New Jersey Emergency Services Academy has the most highly qualified NJ Wing CAP members in Emergency Services serving as staff. The cadet and senior instructors have accumulated thousands hours of search experience.
    They have completed emergency services related courses including the AFRCC Search and Rescue Seminar, Tom Brown Tracking School, NJ Wing Advanced GSAR School, the National Search and Rescue School, US Air Force Para Rescue Orientation Course, US Army Ranger School and US Air Force Emergency Services ECI courses, etc.

    Prerequesites:


    The school is open to CAP Officers who have:

  • Completed Level 1 Training
  • Be in good physical condition
  • Sent in CAPF 31(Officers are Encourged to Attend)
  • Have Emergency Service 101 Qualification
  • Urban DF Qualified (or close to completing)
  • Have Basic 1st Aid
  • Be willing to have a great experience

  • The school is open to CAP cadets who have:

  • Sent in CAPF 31
  • Have Emergency Service 101 Qualification
  • 15 years old or older
  • Are at least a c/Amn
  • Have Completed Basic Encampment
  • Urban DF Qualified (or close to completing)
  • Have Basic 1st Aid

  • All participants must have a doctor's certificate stating any limitations on activities.

    Rules

    No alcohol or recreational drugs permitted, no smoking in facilities. Other school regulations will be mailed in the student packet.

    Graduation Requirements

    All three weekends are required for graduation. Advanced placement may be granted to students who have comparable military or NASAR training. Students are required to report between 1630 and 1800 HOURS on Friday. Students will be dismissed at approximately 1600 HOURS on Sunday.
    Detailed instructions will be mailed ot each student upon acceptance. In order to Satisfactorily complete the course class attendance is mandatory. During the final session of the course, students will be evaluated with a series of practical exercises. The session is designed to give the student the practical knowledge needed to find ELTs in real world situations.

    Housing and Meals

    All Sessions will be held IN THE FIELD at Ft. Monmouth. This is a residence school, no students may leave after check in until released on Sunday. Students should arrive no later than 1800 hours on Friday nights, and will be released at 1600 hours on Sundays. Meals are Included.

    Transportation


    Transportation to and from the school is the responsibility of each student. In accordance with the policies of the New Jersey Wing, it is strongly recommended that Cadets be transported to the reporting site by a parent or guardian. During the course transportation to and from various training sites will be provided by Civil Air Patrol vehicles.

    The Cost will be $100.00 Which includes the following:

    Send an CAPF-31 (one copy) and check or money order to "NJW Civil Air Patrol" for the proper amount.
    No Photo is required on the CAPF-31.
